I was always told that this song is about a rape. That the "silent all these years" is about the inability to speak out about what happened but sometimes she "hears her voice" and now she's finally shouting out what happened. I don't know if it's true, or if it's even about Tori, but as someone who has been abused (not raped, but abused and unable to scream it out for a long time) it definitely struck a chord with me...
From what I have heard- Tori was assaulted and raped.
